Essential Oils to Conquer The Allergy Blues

Essential Oils for Allergies

Dealing with seasonal allergies, watering eyes, sneezing and skin rashes, can be disheartening. There are natural alternatives that I have found to be effective. Below is my list of the top 5 essential oils that I personally use.

1. Peppermint Oil

Inhaling diffused peppermint oil can almost immediately help you breathe easier by opening up the sinuses. Peppermint essential oil provides relief for allergies, as well as colds, coughs, sinusitis, asthma and bronchitis. It has the power to reduce inflammation. Place 3 to 5 drops of peppermint essential oil into a diffuser for relief.

2. Basil Oil

Basil essential oil reduces the inflammatory response of allergens. It also supports the adrenal glands. Basil essential oil assists your body to reduce allergy responses by rushing blood to your heart and muscles. To support the respiratory system, add 1 to 2 drops to coconut oil and apply to the chest, back of the neck and temples.

3. Eucalyptus Oil

Eucalyptus oil opens up the sinuses and also the lungs. Eucalyptus oil also is effective in removing toxins from the body. To clear congestion pour boiling water in a bowl and add 1 to 2 drops of eucalyptus essential oil. Place a towel over your head and inhale the steam for 3 to 5 minutes.

4. Lemon Oil

Lemon oil supports lymphatic system drainage and ease respiratory issues. There have been numerous studies that lemon essential oil inhibits the growth of bacteria and boosts the immune system. When diffused at home, lemon oil can kill bacteria and eliminate allergy triggers. Adding a few drops to water in a spray bottle and spraying couches, sheets, carpets and drapes will help eliminate allergens in the air.

5. Tea Tree Oil

Diffusing tea tree essential oil will kill household mold, bacteria and fungus. It has antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties. Tea tree oil can be applied to the skin directly to kill bacteria. If you have sensitive skin add 1 to 2 drops of tea tree essential oil to a carrier oil. I recommend sweet almond oil or coconut oil.
